The special feeling of scoring in front of the Kop has inspired Rhian Brewster to make his outstanding finish for Liverpool U23s at Anfield on Friday a more regular occurrence.

The 17-year-old forward capped a 4-2 victory against Tottenham Hotspur with his first goal on the hallowed turf - an expertly-judged lob over the goalkeeper.

Neil Critchley’s side made it six wins from six Premier League 2 outings this season, with Harry Wilson registering a first-half hat-trick.

“It was a great game and I thought in the first half we could have been 4-0 or 5-0 up,” Brewster told Liverpoolfc.com.

“They got one back to make it 2-1 from what we didn’t think was a penalty and then their second goal to be fair was a good finish, but we managed in the end to get a comfortable win.

“It’s a special feeling playing at Anfield and scoring my first goal in front of the Kop was a great feeling, and hopefully I can get a lot more in the future.”

Brewster bagged his goal early in the second half, racing clear to meet Lloyd Jones’ inviting long pass and nonchalantly lofting the ball into the net.

The striker said it was a sweet moment to see the effort go in, especially with the team having worked on moves similar to that during their previous training sessions.

Brewster added: “At half-time we were talking about trying to get in behind them a lot more.

“Lloyd found me with a great ball and I took it first time and from the corner of my eye I saw their goalkeeper and just dinked the ball over him.

“We have tried to practise that in training and it’s paid off. In training we try different types of finishing so I was pleased with it.”

Brewster also explained the benefits of the confidence instilled in the players by the Academy staff and the opportunity to learn from the likes of in-form Wilson.

He said: “I’m enjoying it a lot. I’m one of the younger players and I’m playing against big centre-halves, so that’s an experience for me as well.

“We’ve just got to keep doing what we are doing because we are unbeaten in six games, so hopefully we can make that seven, eight, nine, 10 and see how far we can go with it.

“It’s good to play alongside Harry. He trains at Melwood a lot so he’s got that experience of training with the first-team players.

“At half-time I was saying to him you have scored a perfect hat-trick in only the first half and he was laughing. It was a great hat-trick.”
