Ahead of Liverpool U19s' UEFA Youth League clash with Manchester United in the last 16 on Wednesday afternoon, we have picked out five of the sides' most memorable recent clashes.

The majority of the players on show at Prenton Park will be made up from the clubs' U18s squads and it's an eagerly-awaited contest as Steven Gerrard faces his former England colleague Nicky Butt in the dugouts.

Take a look back at five of the best games between the rivals at this level below...

December 2017: Manchester United 2-2 Liverpool U18s

10-man Liverpool U18s were denied all three points by an injury-time equaliser in a thrilling encounter on a snow-filled pitch at The Cliff. After captain Adam Lewis was sent off for two bookable offences, D'Mani Mellor opened the scoring for United. Gerrard's side were superb in the second half and goals from Liam Millar and Glen McAuley turned the game around. The Reds then had some glorious chances to finish the match off before United grabbed a point in the fourth minute of stoppage-time through Arnau Puigmal.

November 2016: Liverpool U18s 3-3 Manchester United

In a truly incredible game in front of the live LFCTV cameras, Liverpool U18s missed two penalties as the teams shared six goals. Callum Gribbin fired United in front only for Rhian Brewster to level the score with a superb strike. McAuley made it 2-1 and Yan Dhanda had a chance to increase the tally but saw his penalty saved by Ilias Moutha-Sebtaoui. Gribbin then made it 2-2 before a brilliant goal from Dhanda edged the Reds in front again. With 10 minutes to go the home side were awarded another spot-kick, but this time Brewster saw his effort saved by Sebtaoui. Remarkably, United drew level with a penalty of their own in the final minute as Gribbin completed his hat-trick.

January 2016: Liverpool U18s 3-0 Manchester United

Ben Woodburn was the star of the show as he netted twice in a comprehensive victory. With the usual showpiece pitch deemed unplayable, the game was switched to one of the training surfaces at the Academy. Woodburn opened the scoring with a stunning overhead kick, and he added a second after a superb run and cross down the right flank from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Woodburn then provided an assist for Dhanda to make it 3-0.

October 2015: Manchester United 0-4 Liverpool U18s

Alexander-Arnold enjoyed an outstanding match on the right side of midfield as Neil Critchley's side produced a rampant display. He opened the scoring with a fine strike after being picked out by Woodburn. Paulo Alves made it 2-0 with a superb effort from outside the box, and future England star Marcus Rashford then hit the post for United. Corey Whelan headed home the third goal and Alexander-Arnold netted a picture-book fourth after a brilliant cross from Woodburn.

August 2014: Liverpool U18s 4-0 Manchester United

Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent were both in majestic form as the young Reds swept United aside at the Kirkby Academy. Wilson opened the scoring before Jerome Sinclair made it 2-0 on 17 minutes. Will Marsh added a third and Kent completed the scoring to wrap up a superb afternoon for the hosts.
