Steven Gerrard dedicated the Liverpool Legends' 4-3 victory over their Real Madrid counterparts at Anfield on Saturday to the memory of Ronnie Moran.

Former Reds captain Gerrard graced his old stomping ground with a superb display that included three assists and a brilliant volleyed goal at the Kop end.

It was little surprise when the No.8 was presented with the Man of the Match award after the game, and he duly chose to pay tribute to 'Mr Liverpool' Moran, who sadly passed away at the age of 83 earlier this week.

"Today was all about enjoyment and on behalf of myself and everyone connected with Liverpool Football Club we'd like to thank Real Madrid, all the players for coming today, all the supporters for coming out in numbers to support the Foundation," Gerrard told Liverpoolfc.com pitchside.

"And we'd like to mention 'Mr Liverpool', Ronnie Moran and dedicate this victory to him."

Before kick-off, both sets of players and the sell-out Anfield crowd rose to acclaim Moran - who served Liverpool with such distinction as a player, captain, coach and caretaker manager throughout his 49 years with the club - with a minute's applause.

"It's been a difficult week for the current players, the ex-players, the supporters, but none more so than Ronnie's family," Gerrard added.

"So on behalf of everyone at the club, we're behind them and hopefully today's victory cheers them up that little bit."
