A plaque paying tribute to survivors of the Hillsborough disaster has been unveiled in Liverpool.

Donated by the family of late campaigner Anne Williams, whose son Kevin died in the tragedy, the commemorative piece recognises the heroic efforts of fans during the rescue operation on April 15, 1989 and the fight for justice that followed.

Ninety-six Liverpool supporters died in the Leppings Lane terrace of Sheffield Wednesday's home ground during an FA Cup semi-final meeting with Nottingham Forest, while many more suffered injuries.

Anne Williams passed away in 2013, three years before the fresh inquest she had long fought for concluded that those who died at Hillsborough were unlawfully killed.

Anne's brother Danny Gordon was behind the decision to commission the bronze plaque heralding the crucial contributions of survivors of the disaster, which was unveiled at Liverpool Central station on Sunday.
