Liverpool FC Foundation, the club’s official charity, will lend its support to Safer Internet Day next week by hosting a series of educational events to raise awareness of online safety.

Safer Internet Day (SID) will be celebrated globally on Tuesday February 7, focusing on the theme of ‘be the change: unite for a better internet’ to help create an improved and safer internet for youngsters.

The Foundation will work alongside SID tutors at a number of events across the club to help raise awareness of the various online dangers and how to avoid them.

Anfield will host an education event for 260 school children from 25 local schools, where tutors will deliver a series of activities to the youngsters to promote the positive use of technology and how to use the internet safely and responsibly.

LFC ambassador Gary McAllister will be in attendance to encourage the youngsters in their tasks.

SID representatives will also deliver sessions to participants of the LFC Foundation’s Premier League Works employability programme and youngsters attending the Foundation’s Premier League Kicks programme in Toxteth.

Andrea Cooper, head of the LFC Foundation, said: “It’s great that the LFC Foundation will once again be supporting Safer Internet Day. It’s important that we help to educate both youngsters and parents on the dangers online whilst also highlighting the many positives of new technologies and how to use them in a safe and fun way.”

Will Gardner, director of the UK Safer Internet Centre, said: “Safer Internet Day is a moment in the year where everyone across the UK can unite to celebrate the internet and make it a better place. Liverpool FC Foundation are delivering an exciting range of activities to help empower children and young people to have a safe and positive time online.

"From a session for 260 local schoolchildren to support across their digital channels, the day of activity at LFC will have a great impact and help make Safer Internet Day 2017 the biggest yet. It is this collaboration that helps to ensure Safer Internet Day has such a positive impact, reaching 40 per cent of UK children in 2016 and growing year on year.”
