Special signed shirts worn by the Liverpool squad during October's 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town at Anfield have raised £18,759.21 for The Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal.

The Reds proudly wore the poppy-embroidered jerseys at their Remembrance fixture, showing their support for serving members of the Armed Forces, as well as veterans of all ages and their families.

Jordan Henderson handed 23 autographed shirts over to The Royal British Legion (RBL) in a special presentation at Melwood last year, and the items were then individually auctioned on eBay with all funds raised going directly to the RBL.

The Liverpool captain said: “It’s important for the team to have the opportunity to wear the poppy on our shirts to show our respects.

“We are extremely thankful for the amazing sacrifices that the Armed Forces make and it’s important to raise funds to support their work.”

Colour Sergeant John Grimes and Lance Corporal John O’Neil from the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment Local Infantry Battalion, 4 Lancs were invited to the training ground in December to meet with Henderson and accept the jerseys on behalf of the RBL, alongside Bill Martin, RBL County Secretary for Merseyside and West Lancashire.

Claire Rowcliffe, the RBL’s director of fundraising, said: “The support from the Premier League clubs for the 2017 Poppy Appeal has been inspirational.

“I’d like to thank the many generous Liverpool FC supporters, players and staff who got behind the campaign, and helped to raise £18,759.21 for the Legion.

“All the money raised by Liverpool FC will translate into the vital support for our Armed Forces community that The Royal British Legion provides.”
