Robbie Fowler hopes Liverpool have saved their most memorable game of the season until the final day.

The Reds host Middlesbrough at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, with the battle for third and fourth place in the Premier League to be decided between Jürgen Klopp’s side, Manchester City and Arsenal.

A win over already-relegated Boro would be enough for the home team to book a spot in the qualifiers of the 2017-18 Champions League at a minimum.

Fowler will be watching on from Shanghai, where the latest edition of the LFC World roadshow is currently taking place, and would appreciate a comfortable viewing experience.

“I’m hoping the game of the season is going to be this weekend,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.

“We as Liverpool fans want the club to be in the Champions League. I’m not going to be madly celebrating it, because I don’t think we should be. Winning leagues is totally different.

“But let’s be excited and let’s hope that the game of the season is this weekend, where we have a comfortable win – fingers crossed – and let’s not put the fans through too much.”

Daniel Sturridge returned to the Liverpool starting line-up last weekend, being named in Klopp’s Premier League XI for the first time in more than four months.

The striker grasped the opportunity with a trademark opener, running off the right flank to reach Philippe Coutinho’s through ball before side-stepping the goalkeeper and slotting home.

Sturridge will hope to retain his place against Boro and Fowler backed the No.15 to capitalise on having the fitness levels to evidence his undoubted quality in front of goal.

“You look at Daniel’s performances since he’s been at Liverpool and he has always scored goals,” said the Reds legend.

“Unfortunately, over the last year or 18 months he has had a bit of a bad time with injuries. You can’t blame or fault any player for that, I’ve been there myself. I know how difficult it is. It’s hard.

“You know when you are playing, you can make a difference. Daniel has proven time and time again, on his day and when he’s fit and firing, he is probably one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

“I’m not saying that as a biased Liverpool fan, I think Daniel has proven that.”
