Jordan Henderson is hopeful of being involved in Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Southampton at Anfield on Saturday.

The captain returned to full training on Wednesday after recovering from the thigh injury that ruled him out of the Reds’ 4-1 win at West Ham United on November 4 and England’s subsequent international friendlies with Germany and Brazil.

Henderson told Liverpoolfc.com: “I feel good. I completed my first session [on Wednesday], so hopefully I can play a part at the weekend.”

Meanwhile, Henderson has paid tribute to Joe Gomez and Dominic Solanke after their recent England debuts.

Gomez followed up a maiden cap against Germany by turning in a man-of-the-match display in the goalless draw with Brazil on Tuesday – a game in which Solanke earned his first Three Lions’ appearance as a substitute.

“I was over the moon,” said Henderson. “I watched the match and thought Joe was outstanding. He got man of the match, so I was delighted for him because he’s worked so hard.

“I saw how much he worked when he was injured for a long period a year or two ago. He’s come through that, he’s stronger and he’s been fantastic for Liverpool – and now he’s getting his recognition for England as well.

“Dom has come this season and been brilliant since he came in. He got his chance and thought he did excellent when he came on, so hopefully he can get more chances as well.”
