Jürgen Klopp insists he is ‘feeling really good’ after attending a hospital appointment on Wednesday as a precautionary measure - and thanked and praised local NHS staff for their care.

The boss missed Wednesday’s training session at Melwood as a result, but returned to take the following day’s workout ahead of this weekend’s head-to-head with Southampton at Anfield.

And speaking at his pre-match press conference today, Klopp was in jovial mood as he discussed his hospital visit - and was eager to highlight the attention he recieved from NHS staff.

He said: “I feel really good. Actually, I am 50 now and maybe I should get used to it, I am not sure! I was twice already in a British hospital and whatever people say about it, the NHS is not as bad as you think!

“I really have to thank a lot of people; not because it was that serious, but really because they were that nice and that’s it.

“There is nothing to say about it - I am not ill. I think it is kind of good news! It’s all fine.

“The only problem is you should not try to experience a hospital as a person in [the] public [eye]… to go somewhere, to hospital or something, and the whole world is talking about it. It was not a marketing thing for Liverpool, but it would have been smart!

“I came in the hospital and then when I passed the first few people, I saw the security and then heard, ‘Klopp is in hospital! Did you see him?’ so they turned their walkie-talkies down! That worked really well!”
