Liverpool have identified Kalidou Koulibaly as a possible target ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports.

Koulibaly has made 81 appearances for Napoli since making his debut for the Serie A outfit back in 2014 but the 25-year-old defender has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League since last summer.

The Senegal international came very close to joining Chelsea ahead of the 2016-17 campaign and it’s understood Antonio Conte in still very keen after missing out on his target.

However, Goal suggest Chelsea may come up against competition from Liverpool for Koulibaly at the end of the season, with the Merseyside outfit on the hunt for defensive reinforcements.

Virgil van Dijk remains Jurgen Klopp’s priority target but the Reds boss views Koulibaly as a potential alternative to the Southampton star.

Reports suggest Napoli want around £60million from Liverpool or Chelsea for the centre-half which could put off interested clubs.
