Liverpool are interested in former Manchester City defender Gael Clichy as Jurgen Klopp seeks to bolster his options at left back.

James Milner has been converted into a full back by Klopp and operated there for almost the entirety of the season just gone.

But the Reds boss is seeking greater competition for places as the club look set to embark on European football once more next season.

The 31-year-old is available on a free transfer after being released by City, amid reports that Liverpool have offered the former France international a two-year deal.

Andy Robertson at Hull remains a target, while they are also monitoring Manchester City target Benjamin Mendy.

Clichy moved to the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2011 after eight years at Arsenal.

In six years with City he won two Premier League titles and two League Cups.

The left back also played his part in Arsenal's Invincibles season back in 2003-04.
