Liverpool are ready to step up their pursuit of RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, according to reports.

Keita, 22, has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield this summer with Jurgen Klopp keen to bolster his ranks ahead of next season.

The German boss has already got his transfer business underway after sealing a club-record £36.9million move for Mohamed Salah from Roma.

But The Daily Mirror say the Liverpool boss is ready to smash this to sign the Guinea international.

Leipzig chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff admitted it would be "irresponsible"  to offload their prized asset before their first Champions League campaign.

But Jurgen Klopp has reportedly made Keita, who is valued at around £70m, his No 1 midfield target and are keen to test their resolve.

The Daily Mirror say the Reds are keen to open talks with the Bundesliga side for a fee.

Keita enjoyed a sensational debut season for Leipzig last term, scoring eight goals and weighing in with seven assists as they finished second in the German top flight.
