Midfielder meets officials to force Anfield move
Naby Keita has met with RB Leipzig officials to force a move to Liverpool following a bid on Sunday, according to claims from a Guinean journalist.
Keita has become Liverpool’s top midfield target following the signing of Mohamed Salah from Liverpool.
Liverpool have been quoted a stunning £70m by Leipzig and told their constant pursuit is boring.
But Jurgen Klopp is still keen to get his man and wants the midfielder to help the balance of his team.
Liverpool have secured the signings of Salah and Dominic Solanke so far this summer.
They have been linked with centre-backs, left-backs and central midfielders.
And the focus appears to be on a deal for Keita at the moment.
The midfielder impressed in the Bundesliga last year and offers dynamism as well as protection for the back four.
German football expert Raphael Honigstein compared him to Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.
"He's a holding midfielder in terms of starting position, although Leipzig never really hold, they are always running all the time,” he said.
"He has the legs and the energy to join up with attacks and to drive through those big spaces that they create through their transition game and because the impact of Kante in the Premier League has been such, that I think the fashion as swung towards that type of player.
"There is a huge demand and that reflects the huge figure for him.
"I think for Liverpool the attraction is very clear, I'm still not quite sure they are prepared to pay as much as €80million for him."
And FOOT224.com journalist Amadou Makadji claims Keita has met with Leipzig officials twice this week in a bid to force a move to Anfield, where he would be offered £130,000 a week.
It is claimed Liverpool made an offer on Sunday and Keita is now trying to force the issue.
“After the arrival of the offer of #Liverpool Sunday Naby Keita met Leipzig 2 times management this week,” Makadji tweeted.
“At the last meeting that took place on Wednesday, Naby accompanied by its representatives, reiterated his desire to join the Reds.”
Leipzig will now decide whether to grant Keita’s wish or keep him against his will.
