Arsenal and Liverpool are the two frontrunners in the race to sign Schalke star Leon Goretzka.

The Germany international looks set to leave Schalke in the summer when his contract expires.

Goretzka has no intention of signing a new deal and his representatives are actively looking for Premier League suitors.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham are all showing interest in the 22-year-old but the Gambling Times claim Liverpool and Arsenal are leading the chase.

They state Jurgen Klopp is in regular contact with the 22-year-old and he is working to convince him to come to Anfield.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger is on the lookout for fresh attacking talent with Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez looking likely to leave at the end of the contract.

Arsenal hope Sead Kolasinac, who joined from Schalke last summer, can play a part in helping lure Goretzka to the Emirates.

Liverpool and Arsenal will hope to land Goretzka, who turns 23 in February, on a free transfer in the summer but could make a move for him in January in order to guarantee his signature.

However, Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel remains hopeful that Leon Goretzka will remain at the club as speculation regarding his future intensifies.

"I think if Schalke had no chance to keep him I would be the first to know that," he told SportBild.

"But I haven't received that kind of information until now.

"Leon will make a decision soon without us building any pressure on him."
