With Liverpool's profile higher than in some time due to their Champions League exploits this season, they are gradually being linked with a succession of players.

The latest, according to AS in Spain, is Sevilla centre-back Clement Lenglet.

The 22-year-old has been in impressive form for the La Liga side, and is said to have a release clause worth around £40million.

Which is interesting, given stories four months ago suggested that clause was £28m.

Anyway, the new report claims Liverpool are ready to threaten Barcelona's move for the player, with claims the Catalans have already opened talks with the Lenglet's representatives.

Indeed, Sevilla boss Vincenzo Montella was asked about this week, and said of Lenglet: “He is a champion with a strong mentality and in the future he can definitely play for Barcelona.”

To be fair, Liverpool's rumoured interest is not a new link.

Lenglet played for Sevilla against Liverpool in the Champions League, and was touted as a possibility for Anfield the following week.
